Verbs
In Monda, we only conjugate verbs according to present, past and future ("-an", "-in", "-on"). The infinitive has the "-i" ending. There are no irregular verbs. For example, the verb "to be" is "esi":
|
mi esan yi esan hi esan xi esan li esan ji esan |
(I am) (you are) (he is) (she is) (he/she is) (it is) |
mu esan yu esan hu esan xu esan lu esan ju esan |
(we are) (you are) (they are - masculine) (they are - feminine) (they are - neutral) (they are - things) |
|
mi esin yi esin hi esin xi esin li esin ji esin |
(I was) (you were) (he was) (she was) (he/she was) (it was) |
mu esin yu esin hu esin xu esin lu esin ju esin |
(we were) (you were) (they were - masculine) (they were - feminine) (they were - neutral) (they were - things) |
|
mi eson yi eson hi eson xi eson li eson ji eson |
(I will be) (you will be) (he will be) (she will be) (he/she will be) (it will be) |
mu eson yu eson hu eson xu eson lu eson ju eson |
(we will be) (you will be) (they will be - masculine) (they will be - feminine) (they will be - neutral) (they will be - things) |
Sentences
Sentences have the same word order as in English (subject + verb + object).
| Mi manjin bananos | - I ate bananas |
| Mi lesan la libro | - I read the book |
Negation
The word "ne" means "not" (it negates a verb) and it goes before the verb (as in French):
| Mi ne esin bananos | - I did not eat bananas |
| Mi ne lesan la libro | - I do not read the book |
Compound verbs
Compound verbs (e.g. "I can eat bananas") work just like in English: the first verb is conjugated and the second verb is infinitive.
| Mi povan manji bananos | - I can eat bananas |
| Mi povin legi la libro | - I could read the book |
| Mi ne povin legi la libro | - I could not read the book |
Imperative
The imperative is formed with the "-ez" ending.
| Manjez yia manjaco | - Eat your food |
| Donez la libro al mi | - Give me the book |
